Stuck - smash social ceilings

Our concept was to visually present the glass ceiling in form of a large transparent PVC film that extends over our furniture.

The audience was interactively involved. With everyone's help, the ceiling should be lifted and hopefully removed in the near future.

Last year we represented the university of applied sciences Potsdam as a team of 15 girls at the “salone del mobile” 2022 furniture fair in Milan.

We used this opportunity, in addition to presenting our designs, to focus on an important and unfortunately still topical issue: the glass ceiling.

Reflections of Forms

Pictures of Phallic Symbols

An installation in collaboration with Anja Lutz and Vincenzo Werner.

Is our understanding of form based on stereotypes?

How can we question our approach to forms and change it?

As designers, we have to ask ourselves these questions every day. The installation is meant to invite the visitors to deal with these questions as well.

The element of gender and impression play an elementary role in the perception and effect of shapes. Forms convey more than just a shape to the viewer; they appeal to visual habits, social norms, and thus emotions. Through the superimposition of projections, the conventions of form and the socially constructed constraints associated with them are broken.

When thinking about how to present shape prejudices, the idea came up to use the natural shapes of fruits and vegetables.

How many times in american teen comedies was a banana used to demonstrate how to use a condom properly?

These two categories are distributed over the two projectors and merge together in the middle to form a single unit.

In order to pick up on and emphasize the contrast of shapes and genders in the design, the color contrast is chosen as the background.

My part of the slide projections were digital photographs of fruit and vegetables on colored paper.
